Or it’s the usual update fun…

By larsbergstrom

Well, it’s now been over a month (July 9th) since I last provided Apple with an updated version of WiFi Checker. It’s got the name change, icon, 3.0 compat, and a couple of other small tweaks I made back in Oct ‘08. About three weeks ago I got the, “is requiring unexpected additional time for review” and I’ve sent more mail to the reviewers to nudge them. Hopefully I’ll get an answer soon – or even better the update approved!

Thanks to all of you for your e-mails and offers of support, but I don’t need you to spam the AppStore reviewers, Steve, or beta test it. I’m also not looking to move to Cydia. I’m fine with just continuing to nudge the review squad. I’d prefer to think that they’ve just slipped up rather than that this is malicious or that I need to pass along bribes.

hopefully Apple will wake up soon and pass your WiFi update – it’s been too long without this clever App for finding the nearest hotspots!

I am patiently awaiting word of a “PASS” from the AppStore reviewers for a version of WiFi Checker that is 3.0-compatible. I really miss having that app! Be sure to let us all know the minute you get approval.

5 more days and it will be 2 months?

Your WiFi Checker is one of the apps I rely on most. Thank God 3.0 didn’t come out until after my vacation to Hawaii. It helped me greatly then.

I look for your update every day, but I hope you email us when you get the “pass” notice.

I’m willing to pay if it is just that free apps are lower in Apple’s que—they make no money on it. Apple is still my favorite company.

I’m pleased to see you’re so calm and positive about it but this is another clear indication to me that the App Store approval process is terminally broken.
Here’s a developer putting time and effort into a very useful utility and giving it away FOR FREE and Apple can’t get an update approved in a timely fashion. Madness. If it was like desktop software, we’d have had it on our phones as soon as you released it.

Maybe if you charged $0.99 it would get approved faster because Apple would be making $0.30 on every download…

even in europe (luxembourg) we re waiting for the approval from apple.
and also if it would be a “paid app” i m willing to pay that ( if that helps apple to speed ap the approval). and please – do not give up that great application. i tried so many others in the mean time, but non of them was able to provide the same result.

I’m wondering if it will ever get approved. It looks like they approved a clone of your app and are sellling it for 99 cents. Not cool.

I can only imagine how frustrated you are… I miss this app since I upgraded my iPod Touch to 3.0 and just this week got an iPhone. I hope Apple realizes they’re keeping a very useful app from its devoted fan base!

    According to Apple

“review board meets weekly and is comprised of senior management with responsibilities for the App Store. 95% of applications are approved within 14 days of being submitted.

If we find that an application has a problem, for example, a software bug that crashes the application, we send the developer a note describing the reason why the application will not be approved as submitted.”

But it sounds like this is not happening in this case. Perhaps a submission of this as an example to the FCC is required, while they are looking at apple anyway.

Lars, I think you may need to send Apple an e-mail their way and ask what the hold up is, or just send in another update. I know for a fact all the new apps and updates that go through, some are bound to be not submitted and marked as submitted. So just send them another email/update an Apple will hopefully update it because it is sucha great FREE app.

I used to use your app all the time and was sad that it did not work with 3.0. I keep checking for an update, but it seems apple was quick to approve the app that puts money in their pocket. Funny how that works eh? I liked our app Lars and I would rather wait for an update, paid or free, than to give money to some dude who copied you.

    Keep up the good work!

I miss this app so much! I check the App Store every few days hoping to see the update.

Please let us know how you are doing with the update approval. Has Apple replied to all?

  15. Angelo Says:

Please let me know when your new version is approved. It seems like the perfect utility for locating active wifi hot spots. Thanks!

How can we together help Apple to speed up the process of validating and releasing the update? I think Apple is not interrested to release the update as long as there are similar apps where they can earn something. Apple~Microsoft?
